MetLife Creative Connections Application Guidelines

How To Apply:
Before beginning an application, be sure to thoroughly read the complete guidelines to make sure you meet all of the eligibility requirements and have the following items prepared ahead of time:

  1. Project Description covering the following points:
    1. specific information about the public performance(s) of the composer’s work (i.e. who is performing, what works are being performed, etc.)
    2. a concise description of all of the composer’s public activities related to the performance(s)
    3. the impact of the activities on the composer, the organization, and the community/audience
    4. media and publicity plans to promote the composer’s activities and performance(s)

  3. Description of the Sponsoring Organization

Applications can be completed all at once or in stages, but must be submitted for review before midnight eastern standard on the appropriate deadline. Material can easily be cut and pasted from existing Word documents.

Application Review
Applications are reviewed by a panel consisting of music professionals with strong backgrounds in contemporary music (professional artists, composers, presenters, and art administrators). Unattributed feedback from the panel will be made available to unsuccessful applicants upon request.

Please note: MetLife Creative Connections is a project-based application. There is no artistic review of the composer’s music.

Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria (all are equally important).

  • Level, extent and originality of the composer’s activities
  • Extent to which the composer’s activities are integral to the performance(s)/event(s)
  • Project’s potential for enhancing the composer’s career
  • Project’s potential for expanding the sponsoring organization’s existing audience base or reaching into new communities
  • Level of commitment of the sponsoring organization
  • Significance of the composer’s role in collaborative/intermedia projects (if applicable)
  • Appropriateness of the amount requested
